Let the arguments commence!

Real Madrid (8) - Bale, Benzema, Courtois, Isco, Marcelo, Modric, Ramos, Varane
Liverpool (4) - Becker, Firmino, Mane, Salah
Atletico (3) - Godin, Griezmann, Oblak
Barcelona (3) - Messi, Rakitic, Suarez
PSG (3) - Cavani, Mbappe, Neymar
Chelsea (2) - Hazard, Kante
Juventus (2) - Ronaldo, Mandzukic
Man City (2) - Aguero, De Bruyne
Tottenham (2) - Kane, Lloris
Man Utd (1) - Pogba

Modric would appear to be the safe option. He deserves it and everyone would be happy for him to win it.

Kopa Trophy nominees

Houssem Aouar (Lyon/France U21)
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool/England)
Patrick Cutrone (AC Milan/Italy)
Ritsu Doan (FC Groningen/Japan)
Gianluigi Donnarumma (AC Milan/Italy)
Amadou Haidara ( RB Salzburg/Mali)
Justin Kluivert (Roma/Netherlands)
Kylian Mbappe (PSG/ France)
Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund/USA)
Rodrygo (Santos/Brazil U20)

Obviously, Mbappe will win this.

Modric deserves it he's been the most important midfield player in a team who's won 4 champions leagues in 5 years and he led his country to the world cup final this year. In a World Cup year performances in the World Cup are massive and Modric is one of the few players who was outstanding in the tournament and for his club also.

These awards are pretty pointless, its given to the player that's involved in the most successful side of the year, either by winning the Champions League or the Euros/World Cup.

In this case, Modric is a deserved winner for carrying Madrid and Croatia.

Luka Modric has won the 2018 Ballon d'Or.

Kylian Mbappe won the Kopa Trophy and Ada Hegerberg won the inaugural Ballon d'Or women's award.

Not surprised Modric won. He had a fantastic season for both club and country.

Griezmann should have be runner-up in my opinion.

This is the end of the Messi-Ronaldo era (in terms of winning the Ballon d'Or)

Modric is nowhere near the best player in the world. Seems to be fashionable to say he’s class these days though. Very good player but has been hyped up ridiculously this year despite not looking any better than he has for the past 5.

THe lads have just been talking about this at work. Does it mean he's the best player in the world, or he's had the best year? Two different things imo. If we were just giving it to the best player in the world then Messi would win it for about 15 years.

The Champions League, rightly or wrongly, is always heavily weighted in these things. Throw in a World Cup/Euros year too and that's going to have a huge bearing on it.

Messi 5th after the year he had was insanely stupid.

You could also argue Griezmann had a better year than Modric - he won the World Cup and Europa League and scored a barrel load of goals for Atletico Madrid.
